Our short three-month Pre-sessional for Postgraduate Studies programme is designed for students who have completed their first degree and meet the academic requirements for postgraduate study but need to improve their research skills, academic writing and effective studying techniques, as well as further develop academic English proficiency.
During the course you will get professional one-to-one advice on university and master course options plus guidance with your application. We will also help you prepare for any potential university interviews and practice with a ‘mock interview’ using the types of questions you may be asked.
Studying a masters degree is very different to undergraduate study. Our programme therefore focuses on the language skills, vocabulary, grammar and skills you will need for the next level of your academic journey. We will help you to prepare for postgraduate style teaching and learning as well as develop the research skills that are vital at postgraduate level.
Every student will receive mentoring to carry out a short research project in their chosen field of study. This could be related to engineering, computer science, politics or whatever course you are applying to universities for. The project will give you a practical insight into studying at a higher level, and also help to show universities that you have the academic skills to excel as a postgraduate student.
By the end of the programme, you will know how to make effective academic presentations as well as how to interpret data and structure concise and clear academic arguments, and avoid plagiarism. You will also learn how to structure academic reports and essays, as well as learning how to perform well at interviews.
The main focus of the course is to develop the Academic English skills required to meet university entry requirements. Study topics include:
A good first degree in any subject that meets the entry requirements of the masters course(s) you want to apply for
English level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in reading & writing)
We offer the option of either joining us in London or Abu Dhabi or studying online in our Virtual Classroom.
